I first start thinking about a bucket list after viewing the movie “Bucket List” in 2007 with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. In the movie, Carter (Morgan Freeman) is in an hospital and he begins writing a “bucket list,” or things to do before he “kicks the bucket” (dies). After hearing from the doctor that he has less than a year to live, Carter wads it up and tosses it on the floor believing he could never do those things he really wanted to do in his life. Edward (Jack Nicholson), his hospital roommate, finds it the next morning on the floor. He then urges Carter to do everything on the list and offers to finance the trip. Carter agrees and they start doing things at the ultimate moment of their life. Since viewing that movie, I was thinking about writing my own bucket list but beside my FB profile I never really extended the list to be meaningful enough.
“Every man dies – Not every man really lives.”, William Ross
Then I see more and more people online writing about their own bucket list and I was thinking that It would be a good idea to create a new section over my blog and put it online as well.
If you haven’t heard about the bucket list, it is a list of all the goals you want to achieve, dreams you want to fulfill and life-experiences you desire to experience before you die. A bucket list isn’t fix in time and you can feel free to add stuff in the bucket as they come. If you’re not planning on personal goal and be determined to make enough space in your own schedule, chance are that you spend most of your time caught up in day to day activities. That’s why having a bucket list. It is like planning ahead all the big things you want for your whole life and be sure you keep an eye on it before you turn too old and unable to achieve the things that were the most important to you.
Tips about creating your own bucket list
If you don’t have a bucket list, I highly recommend you to create one. It gives you significant clarity and focus on what you want from your life. Are you lacking inspiration? Don’t worry, our routine day to day life aren’t always the most inspiring to fill up the bucket. Be sure to relax and change your mind before taking the opportunity to create one. Also, as you experience new things you previously wrote in your bucket list, new ideas should come to you.
Here a couple of questions that should help you write the list:
- What if you were to die tomorrow? What would you wish you could do before you die?
- What have you always wanted to do but have not done yet?
- What will you do if you have unlimited time, money and resources?
- Any countries, places or locations you want to visit? Visit this page for few ideas.
- What are your biggest goals and dreams?
- What do you want to see in person?
- What achievements do you want to have?
- What experiences do you want to have / feel?
- Are there any special moments you want to witness?
- What activities or skills do you want to learn or try out?
- What are the most important things you can ever do?
- What would you like to say/do together with other people? People you love? Family? Friends?
- Are there any specific people you want to meet in person?
